Message from the College President

It’s my honor to welcome you to Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST). It seems strange to welcome you virtually because we are used see each other face to face and shake our hands. This is now the new normal. New normal brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic means education may never be the same as it used to be.

To understand about how we got to this point and what the incoming days hold, we at NONESCOST, would like to reach out all our stakeholders especially the teachers, staff, students and parents to inform how different the classroom would become as we adopt the flexible learning modalities.

With the strict prohibition of face-to-face or residential classroom meetings due to rising COVID 19 cases, NONESCOST resorts to engage with flexible learning and prepare program on it. Flexible learning is the design and delivery of programs, courses and interventions that address learners’ unique needs in terms of pace, place, process and products of learning. While it focuses on essential experiences, contents and outcomes, it also promotes learner control and customizability (Fermin, 2020). It involves the use of digital and non-digital technology; covers both residential and non-residential learning modes of delivery. The adoption may vary depending on the levels of technology, availability of devices, internet connectivity, level of digital literacy and approaches (CHED, 2020).

Confronted with the survey result that more or less 80 per cent of NONESCOST students have poor to no internet connectivity, NONESCOST works out for the most suitable and practical flexible learning modalities it can offer. For complete details of our Flexible Learning Program or Learning Continuity Plan, please refer to the content pages of the VPAA and Deans.

Apang, tungod limitado man ang resources sang eskuelahan, indi namon mapasalig nga indi libre asta mintras. Bilang mga estuyante sa libre nga eskuelahan, kag bilang mga ginikanan nga nagapaeskuela sang ila kabataan, dapat gid nga may share man kita sa aton edukasyon kag indi naton pasugtan ang dole-out na mentalidad. Let’s have a share for our education.

Rest assured that we won’t compromise the quality and inclusivity of higher education in this part of the country while we make everybody’s health and safety our topmost priority.

Certainly, there are challenges ahead. However, if all of us work together, we can overcome the challenges. Together, we heal and learn as one.

Once again, welcome to NONESCOST. Mabuhay tayong lahat.

DR. RENANTE A. EGCAS
SUC II President
